MINUTES OF THE 1ST MOBILITY (From 17th of May 2010 to 27th of May 2010)





DAY 1 – Arrival and reception

(Monday)


Afternoon

- At 5 p.m. the school staff prepared the Students’ room (Block C) of Escola Secundária do Castêlo da Maia for the reception (decoration with flowers, stage and stereos, food and drinks)

- At 6:30 p.m. some parents arrived for the reception and students from class 10th A got ready to welcome their Comenius partners

- At 6:45 p.m. two Portuguese teachers went to the airport by bus, lent by the local Town Hall, to get visiting partners

- At 6:55 p.m. the plane from Romania landed in Porto airport and the Romanian group met the two Portuguese teachers at the airport after having picked up their luggage

- At 7:30 p.m. the bus with the Romanian group and the two Portuguese teachers arrived at Castêlo da Maia Secondary School

- The Portuguese students of class 10th A and teachers involved in the project met the Romanian party in the school gardens and general introductions took place


Evening

- At 08:00 p.m. the Portuguese directed the Romanians to the school canteen, where luggage was temporarily kept

- The Portuguese presented the Romanians with typical food of Portugal offered by the Portuguese families / teachers

- After the dessert, a short musical break took place: first, class 10th A sang the anthem they had prepared for the project accompanied by some students from the class who played some musical instruments (the violin, the trumpet, the guitar); then TUNA MASCULINA of the Faculty of Letters performed three songs

- Around 10 p.m. host families (some school teachers and members of the support staff, some parents from the Parents’ Association of the school and some families from students of class 10th A) started to drop by to take visitors to their lodging place

- Three Portuguese teachers drove their cars to the hotel where Romanian teachers were going to be accommodated to take their luggage and talk with the reception while another Portuguese teacher took the Romanian teachers to the metro station, explained to them how to get the tickets and how the metro system works, taking them then to the hotel to show them the way

DAY 2 – The school

(Tuesday)



Morning

- At 9:45 a.m. host families took the Romanian students to school and Romanian teachers arrived there around that time too (they went to school on foot)

- At 10:00 a.m.Helena Fernandes led the Romanian party through a guided tour around some of the school facilities

- About 10:30 a.m. Romanian students /teachers got divided into 4 groups, each one having three or four Portuguese students and the teacher Helena Fernandes as their guide, and visited some classes to introduce themselves and the project, inviting the school students to attend a session about Romania the next day at the auditorium.

- Around 11 a.m. the local press (Rádio Lidador and Jornal Primeira Mão) arrived at school, interviewed Mrs Helena Fernandes on the project and took some group photos

- The Romanian students/ teachers continued their tour around the school facilities, this time accompanied by the English teacher Joana Ribeiro

- At 12.30 Romanian teachers and students had lunch in the school canteen


Afternoon (1:30 p.m.)

- From 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Helena Fernandes and the Romanian teachers talked about the educational system in both countries and shared information on the subject. Meanwhile, Romanian students walked around the school and some engaged in football games with other school students.

- At 3:10 p.m. Romanian students and teachers, directed by the teacher Mário Lopes and 4 Portuguese students, continued the visit and invitation to other school classes

- Around 4:30 p.m. Romanian teachers and their headmaster were introduced to the school headmaster, Paula Romão

- From 5.30 pm to 6:15 p.m. visiting partners checked the school session they had prepared about Romania

- At 6:30 p.m. host families picked the Romanian students at the school gate and took them home for dinner while the Romanian teachers went to Maia by metro and had dinner near the hotel

DAY 3 – Cultural sessions + joint lesson

19th May (Wednesday)


Morning () (school auditorium)

- At 9:30 a.m. Romanian students and teachers met at school (host families took the Romanian students to school and Romanian teachers arrived there by metro)

- At 10 a.m., oriented by the teachers Helena Fernandes and Joana Ribeiro, Portuguese students presented Portugal to their visiting partners in the school auditorium: each Portuguese student pretended to be something/someone typical or interesting of /about Portugal. The work was translated into the Romanian language by two of the teachers (Mirela Popina and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu)

- At 12.30 p.m. Romanian teachers and students had lunch in the school canteen and some Portuguese students joined them



Afternoon

- At 2:30 p.m. everyone met at the school auditorium

- At 3 p.m. Romanian students presented the session they had prepared about Romania for some of the school classes. Romanian teachers, Ana-Maria Ciocoiu, Alina Toma, Sonia Grigore, Mirela Popina and Rada Persinaru, helped their students in preparing the presentations. The ppts focused on discovering the Romanian students’ native town, Buzau, the unique surroundings, an overlook on the major Romanian monasteries from Bucovina and on traditional food and drinks. Each presentation was introduced by Romanian songs. One Portuguese student translated things into Portuguese. Two Portuguese teachers (Helena Fernandes and Joana Ribeiro) assisted them.

- Romanian students/teachers attended the last lesson the Portuguese students have on Tuesdays (Physical Education, at pitches): students were divided into different teams and they had several games between the two countries under the orientation of both Portuguese and Romanian Physical Education teachers (Lurdes Lagoa and Petre Andrei, Rada Persinaru)

- At 6:25 p.m. the class ended and Romanian students were taken to their lodging place by the host families while Romanian teachers went to Maia by metro and had dinner at a restaurant near their hotel

DAY 4- TPP + survey + joint Portuguese lesson

(Thursday)


Morning

- Around 8:30 a.m. Romanian teachers and students met at school (host families took the Romanian students to school and Romanian teachers got there by metro)

- At 9 a.m. both Romanian and Portuguese students, Romanian teachers and the Portuguese teacher Helena Fernandes went to the school auditorium and started working on the TPP: first, Helena Fernandes explained to the students the structure of the TPP sessions agreed on by the teachers in both countries and informed the Romanian party how and when they intended to put the sessions into practice, while Gina Posirca and Elvira Andrei added up some more details for the introduction of those sessions and the use of some leaflets (translation of the information into Portuguese was conducted by one Portuguese student and into Romanian by the teachers Mirela Popina and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu); then, groups were made with both Romanian and Portuguese students, making sure there was a good student of English from Romania and from Portugal in every group to assure communication (translation of the information into Portuguese and Romanian was conducted by the students without difficulties in English); finally, students started preparing material for the development of the 1st and 2nd sessions of the TPP (they went to the internet to browse for a short text and started preparing the necessary information to make leaflets to hand out to parents with step-by-step instructions on the use of hardware, software, Word documents and online activity. Teachers will later on work on the layout of those leaflets). The students also prepared an assessment sheet, in Portuguese and Romanian, to evaluate the sessions.

- At noon, all students and the Romanian teachers had lunch in the school canteen


Afternoon

- At 1 pm, everyone met again at the auditorium for the analysis of the results of the survey on info-inclusion in the two countries (conclusions were presented by teachers Helena Fernandes and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu). The survey applied to the Romanian parents was prepared and interpreted by Elvira Andrei and Liviu Petrideanu.

- Romanian students attended a Portuguese lesson (in the auditorium), where Portuguese students presented the work they had prepared beforehand. Portuguese students repeated some expressions in Romanian and Romanian students repeated some expressions in Portuguese. Teacher Mirela Popina translated some things into Romanian.

- At 5 p.m., after tea time, Romanian teachers and Helena Fernandes started writing a report on the results of the survey (Language Club) while some Romanian students started selecting some Portuguese music for the documentary about their days in Portugal

- At 6:25 p.m. Romanian students were taken to their lodging place by the host families while Romanian teachers went to Maia by metro and had dinner at a restaurant near their hotel

DAY 5 - Cultural awareness visit

(Friday)



Cruise up and down the River Douro


At 7:30 a.m., Romanian students and teachers met at the school gates and left for Porto by bus. They were dropped at the dock where they got into the boat that would take them up the river. They had breakfast and lunch on the boat with traditional Portuguese food. The Romanian teachers tasted the Porto wine. Some of the teachers and students spoke in French with the other tourists about their experience in Portugal. During this trip, Romanian teachers and students had the opportunity to admire the breathtaking landscapes and to explore some representative places of Portugal. Romanian teachers and students appreciated the manner in which the Portuguese know to emphasize their values, traditions, customs and sceneries. The famous vineyards had been the major attractions for the Romanians.

They had dinner at McDonald’s and the bus took them back to school at 9:30 p.m., where host families picked up the students. Teachers were left at their hotel, except two, Alina Toma and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu, who went with the kids to the school to wait for the families and then returned to the hotel in Maia by metro

DAY 6 - A Visit to Oporto city

(Saturday)



Morning

- At 8.30 a.m. Romanian students and some Portuguese students met at the Metro station in Castêlo da Maia.

- Oriented by Mário Lopes, Joana Ribeiro and Lurdes Lagoa, they got the metro and exited at Maia, where the Romanian teachers were. They all got inside the next metro.

- Around 10 a.m., the party visited Torre dos Clérigos under the help of Mário Lopes and they were impressed by the image of Oporto seen from the top of the tower

- After the visit, they all walked down the city to Gaia to visit one of Oporto Wine Cellars – visit at 11.30 am. Romanian teachers could compare the Portuguese wine cellars with the Romanian ones. Buzau, the native town of the Romanian teachers/students, is well known for its wine, especially from the region Pietroasele. Romanian teachers tasted the Porto wine.

- After the visit to Croft cellars, Mário Lopes left and it was time for a quick lunch in Ribeira/Cais de Gaia



Afternoon

- At 2 p.m. the group went to the metro station of.... and took the metro to Boavista

- At 3 pm they met teacher Helena Fernandes at Casa da Música and under the orientation of this teacher, plus Lurdes Lagoa and Joana Ribeiro, started the visit to the institution, divided in two groups, one speaking Portuguese and another speaking English

- At 4:30 p.m. they ate a snack outside Casa da Música, watching some tricks by the skaters

- At 5:30 p.m. they got the metro to Maia

- While one Romanian teacher went to the doctor accompanied by the parents of one of the students from class 10th A (Gina Posirca), the Romanian and Portuguese students and the other Romanian teachers toured around the city of Maia under the orientation of the teacher Joana Ribeiro

- At 7:30 p.m. the party ate dinner at Mr. Churrasco in Maia, where the teacher Rosa Fernandes joined them

- At 9 p.m. the host families picked their Romanian students at the restaurant and teachers left for their hotel on foot

DAY 7 – A visit to Matosinhos (Portuguese parents / families are also invited to participate)

23rd May

(Sunday)



Morning

- At 9.30 am Portuguese students and Romanian students who were not accompanied by their host families met Mário Lopes at the Metro station of Castêlo da Maia, they took the metro to Maia and joined the Romanian teachers there.

- At 10:07 a.m. all took the metro to Matosinhos beaches, where they met teachers Lurdes Lagoa and Licinia Martins and some other students who had gone there with their families. Due to some hazards, an accident in the metro, the group was divided in two and arrived late at the beach.

- They all spent the rest of the morning on the beach and some actually went for a swim. The students and the teachers played volleyball. They exchanged opinions about the beaches in Portugal and in Romania.

- Around 1 p.m. everyone went to the City Park, where a picnic was held


Afternoon

- After the picnic, Romanian students and teachers and Portuguese students, teachers and families strolled around the park

- Around 2:30 p.m., the party left for Castelo do Queijo on foot

- At 3 p.m., they started the visit at the Sea Life Centre where the Romanian teachers/students were fascinated by the variety of sea life and have bought some souvenirs.

- About 4 p.m., they took the metro to the nearest Shopping centre- Norte shopping – and it was time for shopping and dinner

- At 9:30 p.m. everyone went back to Castêlo da Maia (students) and Maia (all Romanian teachers except two, Mirela Popina and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu, who went to Castêlo da Maia with the students) by metro

- Around 10 p.m., students were picked up by their host families at the metro station Castêlo da Maia and Mirela Popina, Ana-Maria Ciocoiu and Petre Andrei went back to the hotel in Maia

DAY 8 – TPP + Park of S. Pedro de Avioso

24th May

(Monday)



Morning

- At 9 a.m. Portuguese and Romanian students, Romanian teachers and Helena Fernandes met at the school auditorium to work on the TPP again: again, groups were made with both Romanian and Portuguese students, making sure there was a good student of English from Romania and from Portugal in every group to assure communication (translation of the information into Portuguese was conducted by the students without difficulties in English, whereas translation of the information into Romanian was conducted by two of their teachers Mirela Popina and Ana-Maria Ciocoiu); the mixed groups were orientated by the Helena Fernandes and the Romanian teachers, Gina Posirca, Elvira Andrei.

- Finally, students started preparing material for the development of the 1st and 2nd sessions of the TPP: they went to the internet to browse for images and they created register, attendance and assessment sheets)

- At 12:30 p.m. lunch was served at the school canteen



Afternoon

- At 2 p.m., a bus arrived at school to take Romanians to visit Park St. Pedro de Avioso accompanied by Portuguese teachers (Helena Fernandes and Mário Lopes).

- Students and teachers strolled through the park, played volleyball, football and handball. They have taken group photos. Helena Fernandes took a photo of each Romanian student and teacher to use it for the documentary CD of the visit. Romanian and Portuguese teachers have talked about the next mobility in Romania. The Portuguese teachers have appreciated the Romanian students’ behaviour both at school and at the lodging places.

- At 3:30 p.m., the bus arrived to the park to take the party back to school, where they hanged around and relaxed until the end of afternoon classes

- At 6:25 p.m. Romanian students were taken to their lodging place by the host families. Romanian teachers (Gina Posirca, Rada Persinaru) have waited for the Portuguese families to pick up the kids. Then, they went to Maia by metro and had dinner with the other Romanian teachers at a restaurant near their hotel

DAY 9 – Cultural awareness visit

(Tuesday)

Morning: (Departure from the school gates at 8 a.m.)

- At 8:15 a.m. Romanian students and teachers met at the school gates

- At 8:30 a.m. the group left for Lisbon in a bus under the orientation of one member of the school support staff, Jorge Durão

- Around 12:30 a.m., the bus arrived in Lisbon, in Belém area

- The party visited Torre de Belém, Palácio de Belém, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and Centro Cultural de Belém. There was still time to try out the famous Portuguese pastry, pastéis de Belém. They admired the view of Lisbon from Torre de Belém, they have taken many photos during their visit.

- Around 2:30 p.m., they had a snack in the park


Afternoon:

- At 3 p.m., the bus left for Fátima

- Around 5 p.m., the party arrived in Fátima and quickly visited the city streets and shops as well as the shrine and the sanctuary

- At 6 p.m., they started the trip back home by bus

- At 8 p.m., the bus arrived in Maia, left the Romanian teachers at their hotel, except two (Alina Toma and Sonia Grigore), who accompanied the students to Castêlo da Maia, where the host families were waiting for them to take them home

- Another member of the school support staff, Simone Fernandes, took the teachers back to their hotel in Maia by car.

DAY 10 – A visit to Guimarães + work on the documentary + joint lessons

26th May

(Wednesday)



Morning (8 a.m.)

- At 8:20 a.m. Romanian students and teachers met at the school gates

- At 8:30 a.m. the group left for Guimarães in a bus under the orientation of two Portuguese teachers, Joana Ribeiro and Licinia Martins

- Around 9:45 a.m., the bus arrived in Guimarães and the tour started at 10:00. The Portuguese and the Romanian visited Paço dos Duques. The presentation was delivered in Portuguese, the Portuguese teacher Joana Ribeiro translated the details given by the guide in English, while Romanian teachers, Ana-Maria Ciocoiu and Mirela Popina, offered the explanations in Romanian. All the students were attracted by the historical significance of the castle, by the tapestries, the stained glasses and the role of each room. The Romanian teachers and students were interested in The Room of the Arms and The Banquet Room. The Romanian students bought souvenirs from the shops near the castle.

-While going back to the school, the group was given a tour of the main atractions of the town

- At 1 p.m. lunch was served at the school canteen



Afternoon (2 p.m.)

- Romanian students continued selecting the photos and videos for the documentary in the auditorium

- Starting with 3:10 p.m. Romanian students attended lessons with the Portuguese students. The English class was held in the school auditorium. The English teacher Joana Ribeiro organized the students through an ice breaking game: a Portuguese student was put next to a Romanian student. The lesson used interactive methods provided by a web site specialized in teaching/learning English. Each student was invited to solve a specific task using the computer, all the other students being able to correct the solutions. All the students have succeeded in solving the tasks.

-At 5 p.m. Romanian and Portuguese students attended Physical Education class, at pitches: students were divided into different teams and they had several games between the two countries under the orientation of both Portuguese and Romanian Physical Education teachers (Lurdes Lagoa and Petre Andrei, Rada Persinaru)

- At 08.30 p.m, Romanian and Portuguese students and teachers had dinner out at a local restaurant. They shared their opinions about this experience. The party ended with a dance show in front of the restaurant while waiting for the host families.

-Around 9:30 p.m. Romanian students were picked by their host families and the Romanian teachers went to the hotel by metro

DAY 11 – Report on the 1st mobility + Documentary + Departure

27th May

(Thursday)



Morning

- At 8:30 a.m. teachers and students involved in the project met at the school auditorium

- All students and Romanian teachers wrote a report on the week spent in Portugal and there was an exchange of films, photos and recording.

- Around 1 p.m. there was an exchange of gifts from both countries and it was time to say goodbye.

- At 1:30 p.m. Romanian teachers and students had lunch in the school canteen



Afternoon


- At 3 p.m. visiting partners left the school and headed to the airport by bus accompanied by Helena Fernandes.
